Actually that's a lie, the Only time I ever feel my age is the morning after I've had a few drinks, and I say a few drinks, as it's been many years since I've drunk so much that I couldn't stand. I think if I didn't have kids I may have been a much bigger drinker now, but I just cant handle the hangover with kids, its not good, so I've actually just avoided it. Yes I drink, but it's not very often.
I'm actually a little scared but excited of hitting 40.
My bucket list has most definitely got longer, as I always wanted to travel and see the world, and, although I am very lucky to have have travelled a lot already, there is still so much more I want to see. Life is short, it really is....the years just fly by, especially when there are children involved. They go from a baby to a little adult so quickly, its actually really scary. So I'd really like to travel more now the kids are older. They are now at an age where they will remember their holidays and it's not all about making sandcastles.
If I had the money, I would pack my bags tomorrow and take the kids and start ticking off those lists. But with school, its not as easy to do that. However, if the right opportunity arose, I wouldn't hesitate.
When I was younger I wrote lists of where I would go and in what order. I wanted to travel around Australia and New Zealand, and then travel across America. I wanted to hire a convertible and drive along route 66 and see Niagara Falls. There is so much to see in America, I couldn't possibly list them all. I also want to travel across Africa and do safaris and see the animals in the wild instead of behind cages. My goodness, Africa is such an amazing continent, Morocco, Gabon, Namibia, South Africa are all full of wonderful experiences. I want to take a train across Canada and snowmobile in the mountains and watch the bears eat salmon from a wooden hut. I'd love to see the Northern Lights and sleep in an igloo. I'd like to Greek Island hop, I have, to be fair visited quite a few already, but there are still more to do. I'd like to visit places of history like Rome and Pompeii, and then explore Mexico and Brazil. Then ..... of course, the Caribbean.
My bucket list also includes the many many hotels in the UK that I'd love to visit, whether it be for a glass of champagne in the bar, or a meal, a spa experience or an over night stay .... or of course, all of that. I actually completed a bucket list tick on Saturday, where I finally ate in The Glasshouse at The Grove Hotel. It was amazing, and although it is very costly, it is worth every pound. I used to work at The Grove Hotel, and the only thing left in the hotel that I would like to do is have a spa day. It really is one of the best in England.
So much to do !!!! Thank goodness, I still have plenty of time.
Then of course, we are working our way around the UK. We're back to the Isle of Wight this year for a wedding so we are going to do some proper exploring this time. We are staying in Yarmouth near the national reserves and ports, so I'm excited about that. I'd also like to finally do Sherwood Forest and take the kids to Cornwall and Devon. Then we have the top part of Wales to do and then over to Island for a road trip would be awesome. Not all in this year ..... obviously.
I'm continuing my healthy lifestyle. I still have days where I just want to eat every sweet thing I can find but on the whole, my diet is much better and I exercise a lot more. Having the dogs also encourages me to get out a lot more. I've always loved walking...its the most natural exercise you can do. I decided to do a 5 mile walk on Saturday, just because I could. I'd like to get a couple of fitness obstacle courses this year. I've already signed up for Gauntlet Games but there's a few others I'd like to attempt.
I'm going to try and stop saying .... 'yes soon'.....to......'lets book a date in' lets do this !!!!
How do you feel near your birthdays, do you go through your bucket list like me?
