Protein Drinks Options

Whenever I see someone I haven't seen in a while, they always mention how much weight I've lost and how have I done it..... Now I haven't actually lost that much weight, not even a stone !!! But on my little frame its made a huge difference. I am toning up and am toner than I have been in years. The abs (under the mummy belly) are returning !! (you just cant see them, but you can feel them) and my bum is a lot smaller. So when I say that actually, all it is is exercise, protein shakes, eating healthily and drinking matcha green tea every day they looked shocked. No people, you don't need to starve yourself or drink just vitamin based shakes all day, you need to work at it, and the results are always better and they are for long term instead of short term. You can read any of my previous posts this year if you need some guidance on how a non-professional has done it.

Now there are LOADS of protein shakes, but when you're not an expert, it can be quite daunting. Which one, what do they all do, why are they called weird names, why are some just letters ?????? So I've asked around and I have a couple to recommend, other than my daily Nutribuddy Protein Shake.
Everyone needs protein as it helps the body to function correctly. It helps your organs, hair and skin as well as help repair and grow your muscles. Body builders eat and drink extra amounts of proteins as it repairs the broken down muscles to grow even larger, but we all need protein in our diets. For people on a weight loss diet, the protein will help you feel fuller for longer so you shouldn't need to snack.
As every body is different, we all need different amounts of protein. For my height, weight and age I need approx 70g of protein daily. Well anything between 55 - 90g. So I always aim for 70g. So anything extra is perfectly fine and a bonus.
You can calculate yours here :  Fitness Savvy  or
Or just Google Protein Calculator if you like.

Firstly we now have protein water... yes I wrote that correctly !!! Protein added to water. Wow !!!

For Goodness Shakes have 20g of protein per drink which is a great amount and they also produce coconut water versions too ! I really want to try these too. However, these waters come in two flavours, Orange & Mango and Blackcurrant. They both taste very refreshing after a workout. Although the Orange & Mango is so much nicer and definitely my favourite. These can be drunk at any time throughout the day as well as during your workouts. You can even add them to your smoothies. I like to drink these, however, whizzed up with some fresh fruit would be amazing. I think pineapple would go perfectly with the Orange & Mango flavour and I would probably add a mixture of berries to the blackcurrant flavoured one.
They are both fat and sugar free and only 86 Calories a bottle. Amazing right ! If you buy them online you can get discounts, so have a look and get stocked up.

Now for some protein shakes. With protein shakes like my Nutribuddy, you should add water - to keep the calories down, but, it's your drink and you should enjoy it anyway you like, so with any of these powders, you can add coconut water, milk or dairy free alternatives (see this post here for ideas)

I was sent these two samples from Predator Nutrition.

This Quest Protein Powder can actually be used for baking as well as drinking. It tastes just like a chocolate brownie cake mix and smells like it. So if you need a strong chocolate fix then this is the one for you. This is great for body builders as it includes whey and milk protein at a good amount of 23g protein per serving and micellar casein. It has no added sugar, its gluten and soy free.
I found this very thick with the recommended amount of water so I increased the amount to where I was happy. So, always remember they are just recommended, its not a strict rule. However, I personally felt really full after drinking this so I didn't want to eat for hours afterwards.
You can find the Quest Protein on their website here : and check out the other flavours too.
Then we have Syntha-6 Edge. Now this is a kind of name that just goes way over my head. Why do they make it all sound so complicated?? Well it isn't when you know, but for me I was like ....whaaaaat ?? But basically its a protein drink with 6 different types of premium proteins and its really really tasty and is great for building up those muscles. This is a whopping 24g of protein per serving.
This particular flavour is Chocolate Peanut Butter, and O...M...G... it tastes like a chocolate mousse dessert with peanuts and I would happily drink this every day.

Newer options that I keep seeing are travel sized protein or fast protein as I've also seen it called. SIS or Science in Sport do these little packs that easily fit in your gym bag. They recommend having one of these straight after a workout. They are only 88 calories and they contain 20g of protein each pack. These have a really thick yogurt consistency and are an acquired taste, but worth trying all the same.
Now I personally think breakfast should be food with an added smoothie or shake, I wouldn't just have a protein shake for breakfast, as everyone needs food for fuel (quoted by The Body Coach - Joe Wicks), but when you are super busy and you have to have breakfast on the go, then The Weetabix On the Go is a really good option. I have had a few of these in the past and they are all really tasty and great for those school run mornings or if you have to leave really early for a trip out.
Weetabix have added protein to a lot of their products and the shake was very kindly included. When I first saw these drinks, I thought they would be really thick with bits of Weetabix floating around. Well, I was so wrong, it's actually a really smooth shake. This particular protein shake has 21g of protein and all the goodness of a bowl of Weetabix with added vitamins. You can buy these in most supermarkets and if you're lucky, they are sometimes on a really special deal. So you can stock up on these to keep you feeling fuller for longer.
I just want to quickly add in that my daily protein shake of the year Nutribuddy have now introduced Travel Size Packs !! Woohoo. So now you can take your Nutribuddy on holiday with you and to the gym . They produce a 7 day, a 14 day and a 30 pack.
This is a brilliant way to try new products and also, just to have in your gym bag. The 14 day pack is now selling really fast so get in there and try a product that I absolutely love.
Nutribuddy has 21.9g of protein per serving and is really easy to shake up and can also be added to smoothies or make up your own shakes. This is a Must Try and I've documented my year so far with Nutribuddy throughout my blog - have a read here My Update Post of Getting Fitter and Healthier

We’re going Vegan!
As Nutribuddy has developed over time, we naturally started to head in a more ethical direction. It felt right. Every product we launched after the Sculpting Whey Protein was naturally vegan. We also started attracting many vegan customers. It wasn’t just that we wanted to accommodate for vegan customers but we actually felt passionate about the move to launch more vegan products. Changing to completely vegan is something we really felt passionate about doing. It lines up with our brand values and means that all our products are suitable for everyone! As a new start-up company, we needed time to find out what was right for us. 2 years on I can happily say we have found the right route and that involves being a vegan brand. Our customers and team are a mix of vegans, vegetarians and omnivores. The one thing we all share in common is caring about the food we eat and the environmental impact of food and packaging.
